Cefaclorum Drug Information
Cefaclorum (brand names: Raniclor / Ceclor / Distaclor / Keflor) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used for treating infections caused by certain bacteria.
Cefaclorum is indicated in the treatment of the following infections when caused by susceptible strains of the designated micro-organisms:
Lower respiratory infections, including pneumonia, acute bronchitis, and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
Upper respiratory infections, including pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
Otitis media.
Skin and soft-tissue infections.
Urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis and cystitis.
Cefaclorum has been found to be effective in both acute and chronic urinary tract infectious; sinusitis; gonococcal urethritis.
Cefaclorum is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills sensitive bacteria by interfering with formation of the bacteria's cell wall while it is growing. This weakens the cell wall and it ruptures, resulting in the death of the bacteria.
