Cefixime Drug Information
Cefixime (generic name: Cefixime) is a cephalosporin antibiotic.
Cefixime is prescribed for bacterial infections of the chest such as pneumonia and bronchitis, and also infections of ears, urinary tract, and throat.
Cefixime has proven efficacy in otitis media and pharyngitis/ tonsillitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and uncomplicated gonorrhea. Cefixime is also indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by E. coli and P. mirabilis and uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral) caused by N. gonorrhoeae.
Cefixime Directions and Recommendations
Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Cefixime exactly as directed.
Cefixime is usually taken once a day or every 12 hours (twice a day) for 5-14 days. Gonorrhea may be treated in 1-10 days. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Shake the liquid well before each use to mix the medication evenly.
The tablets should be swallowed whole and taken with a full glass of water.
Continue to take Cefixime even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Cefixime without talking to your doctor.
Caution should be used in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug.
Keep Cefixime at room temperature, away from direct light and moisture.

Cefixime is usually well tolerated.
Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic or sensitive to penicillin, cephalosporins or any other drugs.
Contact your doctor if you pregnant or breast-feeding.
