Norfloxacin (generic name: Norfloxacin; brand names include: Norfloxacine / Apo-Norflox / Norflohexal / Roxin / Utinor) belongs to a group of medicines called fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
Norfloxacin is used to treat various bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, cystitis, and some STDs such as urethral and cervical gonorrhea.
Norfloxacin Directions and Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Norfloxacin exactly as directed.
Your doctor will tell you how much Norfloxacin you need to take. Norfloxacin is usually taken every 12 hours.
The usual dosage for urinary tract infections is 400 mg twice daily for 3-21 days depending on severity of infection or organism sensitivity. The maximum dose is 800 mg daily.
The usual dosage for uncomplicated gonorrhea is 800 mg as a single dose.
The usual dosage for prostatitis is 400 mg every 12 hours for 4 weeks.
A lower dose may be required in patients with kidney problems.
Norfloxacin should be taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. It is recommended to drink plenty of water during treatment.
