Roxithromycin (generic name: roxithromycin; brand names include: Roximycin / Biaxsig / Roxar / Surlid) belongs to a class of drugs known as semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotics.
Roxithromycin is used for the treatment of bacterial infections including infections of the ear, nose and throat, respiratory tract, skin and skin structure infections, and urinary tract infections.
Indications include:
acute pharyngitis
tonsillitis and sinusitis
acute bronchitis
pneumonia
non-gonoccocal urethritis
impetigo (bacterial infection causing sores on the skin)
Roxithromycin Directions and Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Roxithromycin exactly as directed.
The usual adult dosage is 300 mg daily. The usual duration of treatment is 5 to 10 days.
The dosage and the duration of treatment may vary according to the type of infection.
Roxithromycin should usually be taken on an empty stomach or at least 15 minutes before a meal.
